Why an Organically approved seed pellet ?
The United States enacted a new federal law known as the
National
Organic Program (NOP), which standardizes the requirements that growers
must meet in order to grow crops that can be certified as "organic". The
NOP prohibits the use of "synthetically derived" materials when
producing organically grown crops. Most all seed pellets currently
contain one or more synthetically derived materials and cannot be used
to grow organic crops.
NATURECOAT®
contains no synthetically derived materials
NATURECOAT® has gone through a review process by a
non-profit, non-governmental group called the
Organic Materials Review
Institute (OMRI). This group of people reviews the raw materials and
processes used to create these raw materials, in order to verify that no
material used in the process is synthetically derived. Then the
pelleting process itself is reviewed for the same reasons. Products that
are allowed by OMRI are considered acceptable under the provisions of
the NOP. NATURECOAT®
has gone through this rigorous review and has been approved for use by
organic growers.
The Pellet
The pellet is a light density, melting pellet with a smooth white
surface and excellent uniformity. The materials form a pellet with a
high porosity for increased oxygen availability. It has been thoroughly
tested and commercialized for use on numerous vegetable species.
